01

Problem

The task was to trace how configuration values propagate to 3D tracking output across radar algorithms, a DSP build, serial links, and a GUI.

02

Architecture

IWR6843 sensor → range/Doppler processing with 2D Capon/MVDR and CFAR → DSS/MSS shared memory and mailbox → dual UART → Visualizer.

03

Hardware and Software

  • IWR6843ISK
  • IWR6843AOP
  • TI Radar Toolbox
  • Code Composer Studio
  • C674x DSP
  • SYS/BIOS
  • UART

04

Data Flow

Radar chirps → range, Doppler, and angle processing → dynamic/static CFAR → point cloud and target list → serial packet → 3D display.

05

Methodology

  • Separated the EVM control and data COM ports
  • Tuned sensor position, boundaries, and detection parameters for the test space
  • Compared tracking frames at different times and across Visualizer views

06

Results

  • Observed the 3D target-tracking flow in an 18.17-second run
  • Captured point-cloud, tracking-box, and range-profile views
  • Organized system-level checks spanning hardware, configuration, DSP, and GUI

What I worked on

  • Adjusted sensor height, direction, FOV, range, and thresholds
  • Checked the 115200-bps CLI and 921600-bps data UART paths
  • Compared point-cloud, tracking-box, range-profile, and vital-sign views

Code and results

  • Photographs of the IWR6843ISK-family EVM setup
  • 3D People Tracking frames and Visualizer configuration screens
  • C674x DSS/SYS/BIOS build artifacts and an IWR6843AOP target configuration

Design scope and next steps

Software base: TI Radar Toolbox and SDK examples. Scope: configuration, DSS build structure, communication, and GUI. MSS artifact: binary. Vital-sign view: functional display.

The IWR6843 setup uses sensor height, orientation, FOV, range, and threshold settings matched to the room. C674x DSS processing and DSS–MSS transfer feed the 115200-bps CLI and 921600-bps data UART paths, ending in 3D point-cloud and target-tracking views.

Software base: TI Radar Toolbox and SDK examples. Archived artifacts: DSS build records, MSS binary, and Visualizer screens.
