Impedance Matching

I revisit transmission lines through Wilkinson and branch-line networks using my assignments, Cadence circuits, and S-parameter figures.

What I connect in this unit

Impedance matching transforms the input impedance toward a reference value to improve power transfer or reduce reflection. L-networks, quarter-wave transformers, and single stubs reach that goal with different elements and bandwidth behavior.

Technical anchor

For two real impedances connected by a quarter-wave section, use Zt=sqrt(Z0 ZL). An L-network or stub is selected so residual reactance or susceptance vanishes at the design frequency.

How I review it

Plan a common-frequency-axis comparison of |S11| for all three methods, evaluating not only the center-frequency match but also the width meeting a return-loss target.
