DC Machine Foundations
I revisit magnetic circuits, transformers, and rotating machines around my transformer report and calculation sheets.

What I connect in this unit
In a DC machine, field-winding flux and rotor speed produce back EMF, while flux times armature current produces electromagnetic torque. Armature current follows from supply voltage minus resistance drop and back EMF, coupling flux, load torque, and the speed characteristic.

Combining E_a = k_e Phi omega, T_e = k_t Phi I_a, and V_a = E_a + I_a R_a gives speed approximately as (V_a - I_a R_a)/(k_e Phi) at constant flux.
How I review it
Set omega = 0 at startup so back EMF is absent, calculate armature current, and compare it with rated current to establish the need for starting resistance or active current limiting.
