Week 07

Matched Filters and Detection

I use the saved course file to reconnect sampling, baseband transmission, digital modulation, and error-rate analysis.

What I connect in this unit

A correlator forms a decision statistic as an inner product with the reference pulse, while a matched filter implements the same operation by convolution. In AWGN it collects signal energy for maximum sampled SNR before threshold detection.

  3. Decision thresholds
  4. Maximum SNR

Technical anchor

For pulse p(t), the matched impulse response is h(t) = kp*(T − t), and y(T) = ∫r(t)p*(t)dt equals the correlator output.

How I review it

Place a threshold between the mean decision statistics of two binary hypotheses and sketch which distribution tail produces each error event.
