Pulse Shaping and PAM

What I connect in this unit

PAM selects an amplitude for each symbol and places a symbol pulse in time. A raised-cosine filter preserves zero crossings at symbol instants while its roll-off factor trades excess bandwidth against time-domain tail length.

Technical anchor

For symbol rate Rs and roll-off α, the one-sided raised-cosine baseband bandwidth is B = Rs(1 + α)/2.

How I review it

At the same Rs, calculate bandwidth for α = 0, 0.5, and 1, then compare pulse sidelobes and zero-crossing locations.
