Week 01

Digital Communication System Model

I use the saved course file to reconnect sampling, baseband transmission, digital modulation, and error-rate analysis.

What I connect in this unit

An information source produces bits, and the transmitter maps them to baseband pulses or a passband waveform suited to the channel. The receiver estimates bits after noise and distortion, with error rate, bandwidth, and power efficiency as performance measures.

Concept map

  2. Transmitter and receiver
  3. Baseband and passband
  4. Performance measures

Technical anchor

A complex baseband signal x(t) becomes the passband waveform s(t) = Re{x(t)e^(j2πfct)} at carrier frequency fc.

How I review it

Draw source coding, modulation, channel, demodulation, and decision in order, labeling each interface as bits, samples, or a continuous waveform.
